Background: CES1P1 belongs to the type-B carboxylesterase/lipase family. In contrast to other members of the family, it is shorter and lacks the C-terminal part that contains the conserved Glu and His active sites, hence it probably has no esterase activity. Could be the product of a pseudogene. It is expressed in the placenta.
