Background: JPH1 (Junctophilin 1) contributes to the stabilization of junctional membrane complexes, which are a common feature of all excitable cells and mediate cross talk between the cell surface and intracellular ion channels. It may act by anchoring the plasma membrane and endoplasmic/sarcoplasmic reticulum (ER/SR). It is composed of a C terminal hydrophobic segment spanning the ER/SR membrane and a remaining cytoplasmic domain that shows specific affinity for the plasma membrane.
